Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a Director of Clinical Education for its Master of Science program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, at the rank of Non-Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant Professor, beginning Spring 2026.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an interprofessional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice.  The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning centers with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies.

 

The CSD department is seeking a colleague who is experienced, dynamic, and collaborative; one who will build upon the currently existing network in the community, schools, private practices, and hospital settings, who is a good communicator with both students and clinical contacts, and who will contribute to clinical teaching in the program. The Master of Science graduate degree program is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The CSD department is associated with numerous school districts, private practices, and medical centers that provide services to individuals with communication disorders across the lifespan. This includes two clinics operated by the CSD department: the CSD Adult Learning Lab for adults with neurological communication disorders, and the RiteCare Childhood Language Center of Orange County for youth with communication disorders. Responsibilities

As a Non-Tenure-Track faculty member, you will contribute to the clinical education of the graduate students in the MS Communication Sciences and Disorders program, teaching in areas related to your specific expertise and curricular need. As the Director of Clinical Education (DCE), you will be responsible for oversight of the clinical education component for the graduate students in the MS Communication Sciences and Disorders program. The DCE works collaboratively with the Department Chair and faculty regarding practicum curricula, developing clinical education policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with the clinical education standards of the Council for the Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The DCE also collaborates with the Crean College Contracts Administrator for clinical affiliation agreements, independently seeks new placement sites for student clinical rotations, and serves as a liaison between practicum instructors, onsite supervisors, and students.


Qualifications

  • Master of Science or Master of Arts graduate degree with demonstrated excellence in clinical education. Graduate of an accredited communication sciences and disorders professional program.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of California.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical teaching, clinical coordination and/or clinical supervision.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and clinical mentoring skills.
  • Able to initiate, administer, and assess clinical education programs.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers, especially with colleagues involved with clinical education.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and (best) practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database, internet searches).
  • Knowledge of ASHA, California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board, and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements for certification, state licensure and school credentialling.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to represent the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at presentations and meetings.

Qualifications Desired

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a certified Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and work independently.
  • Proven ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions and fluctuating workloads.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PeopleSoft and ImageNow software.
  • Prior experience as a Director or Associate Director of Clinical Education
  • Prior experience as a Site Clinical Coordinator of Clinical Education
  • Prior clinical teaching experiences in a CSD academic program and/or administrative experience in clinical practice.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The salary range for this position is $116,000-$122,000. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. This position is contingent on final budget approval.
