This presentation is intended to address the need for inclusive and effective disability accommodations in speech language pathology and audiology graduate programs. This session will explore the legal framework for inclusive accommodations necessary for students with disabilities and specific accommodations and support for CSD graduate students in clinical practice sites and didactic labs. Key principles of inclusive accommodations will be discussed. Challenges faced by educators will be addressed and audience participation will be encouraged. Content in this session is intended to help educators develop proactive approaches to identify how reasonable disability accommodations can be implemented in their programs. This presentation will offer guidance through relevant federal law, case studies from the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and best practices identified within higher education. Attendees will be able to identify their role and responsibility in supporting classroom accommodation requests. Being an active participant in the interactive process, educators will be equipped to respond to accommodation requests while ensuring students are able to meet essential requirements of their program. Presenters will provide an overview of guidance on identifying fundamental alterations and identifying possible undue burden on classroom accommodation requests per federal law.
